The new year is off to a good start, or at least a hopeful start. Honestly, I was at the end of my rope towards the end of the year. I am focused on two things this year: getting a better job, and dating. They have similar dynamics.
On the job front, it's increasingly unlikely I'll get a traditional consulting position - one of two MBA tracks. I'm too old, or too stupid, or something. So, I am networking, networking, networking. There are some interesting opportunities in New York's startup scene. There are also some opportunities at my current employer. I continue to court a couple of vendors as well. I think things are picking up, but given the latest economic news, it sounds like we're in for a couple more years of shuffling rather than growth.
On the dating front, I'm happy to say I've averaged about a date a week. They've ben good! Not like, falling in love, or anything serious, but I've had fun and met some interesting guys.
The key with both is that I'm not taking either too seriously. I'm in a good place now; I only want more, or better. When I was younger I took both - especially dating - way too seriously.
Meanwhile, I plan vacations. The uncertainty about jobs and wanting to travel make it harder to plan, but still, a girl can dream. Diving in the Carribbean. Riding a train across Siberia. Taking in the epicurean delights of eastern Europe. Brazil. Argentina.
Anyway, this Dragon year may be rough, but I'll enjoy it as I can!
